Awesome Ink, an Interview with Kyle DeVries

What are three words you think people would use to describe you?
Three words that describe me are funny, responsible, and hardworking.

You have a great range in your portfolio. You've done The Joker and Sully from Monsters Inc. Can you name a fictional character that is most like you & why?
A fictional character that Is most likely me would have to be Bart Simpson just because he doesn’t care what anybody thinks and just does what he wants to do!

If you could be best friends with a character from a movie who would you choose and why?
If I could be best friends with a character from a movie it would be Brendan from Step Brothers. I love Will Ferrell's comedy and I think that's one of his funniest movies!

What inspired you to do pop culture tattoos? Are you a big movie buff?
I’m a huge movie buff. I have been tattooing for a short time and I'm very happy a lot of my clients request pop culture stuff.

What's one challenge of being a tattoo artist?
The biggest challenge of being a tattoo artist Is being able to keep that constant motivation. Every time I go on my Instagram I see mind-blowing tattoos and some times I'm like “I give up” haha.

What's one perk?
One perk of being a tattoo artist would have to be that you never really feel like you’re working. I love tattooing that much that ever since I started It just feels like a hobby to me!

Was it a tough choice to decide to tattoo professionally? How did you decide?

It was a pretty easy choice for me. Growing up around art my whole life I feel like I fell into tattooing naturally and my Dad being a huge influence to me he definitely helps me to get to where my goals are.

When you're not tattooing what's a fun past time for you?
If I’m not tattooing I usually like to go out and adventure. Either go snowboarding, mountain biking or skateboarding.

Where do you currently tattoo?
I currently tattoo at MD Tattoo Studio In Northridge, CA.

Any favorite quotes?
“If you ain't first, you're last.” -Ricky Bobby

And what's new for you in 2019?
I’ll be doing a lot of traveling this year! My Dad and I are going to try and tackle as many conventions as we can this year.
